ABOUT

LAND CLASSIFICATION AND EXISTING LAND USE

About sixty five percent (65 %) of the municipal land area is classified as forest lands while the rest are alienable and disposable lands and rivers and creeks (35 %)

Data from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management show that land in Mayantoc is being used for the built-up, agriculture, forest, pasture, quarrying and river wash. The prevailing soil condition and land management units may have influenced to a large extent the development of this present land use mix in the municipality. The following table shows that forest land dominates the Mayantoc land use mix in the western section while agriculture use dominates the eastern section. Considering that agriculture is a labor-intensive industry, the built up areas usually have to be developed in the highly productive agriculture areas.
